Hello our cherished and beloved children of the RockSoc!
Given that “half-term” is looming and by “half-term” I mean the four week period of debauchery in which you are supposed to be revising. In lieu of this your lord and masters of the Rock Society have prepared a whole host of events in the run up to Easter during March, for your pleasure and delight. Aren’t we nice?
A brief summary is as follows...
7th March – Trip to Laserquest in Huddersfield with Goth and Punk Soc
10th March – Two Smokin’ Barrels vs Metal Kettle – in the battle of the club nights who will emerge triumphant? Turn up, get rat arsed and find out!
13th March – The annual Alt Ball an evening of sophistication, fine dining and cultured conversation...until the after party...if you haven’t signed up then you should be ashamed!
20th March – RockSoc gatecrashes Wendy House!
I know that’s alot to take in (well it is for my small History student mind at any rate...), but we hope to see as many of you at these events as possible! Details below!
Frickin’ Lasers Man- 7th of March!
On the 7th of March the RockSoc will be descending upon Huddersfield laser quest with our brethren of the alternative world the Punks and Goths. We’ve booked exclusive use of the venue for between 7pm til 10pm and it will be a mere tenner for three hours of blasting each other away. Play as many games or take as many breaks as you want! Plus even better...the place has a bar!!!
The “Plan” is to catch the 18:10 train from Leeds to Huddersfield, which will arrive at 18:27 and then we shall lead you to Laserquest! We’ll be meeting everyone at between 17:00 and 17:15 outside the Parkinson Steps for those who do not know the way to the train station. We will definitely leaving for 17:15 to get there and purchase tickets in time, especially if there are loads of us! We do have a limit on this event to around the 50 mark, including the Punks and Goths...so we’ll be having a sign up sheet in the Old Bar for it next week whilst we’re selling tickets for the ball.
Genre Wars – 10th March
Our usual Subculture club night will be being replaced with a fusion of our favourite two events RockSoc and Two Smokin’ Barrels and Metal Kettle, and we’ll be having DJ’s from both playing music that you want to hear. It’ll be the same sort of deal as always with doors opening at 9pm and closing late...however due to the nature of the evening we will be having a special theme...watch this space for more info...
The Alt Ball – 13th March
You all may have noticed the posters around the Union recently for the sports ball. Yes, we think it’s lame too, but fear not, we have a solution! Satruday 13th of March sees the return of our annual Alt Ball, good food, good music, and not a meat head in sight, bliss. We have 5 of our special discounted tickets left (£25), after that they are £35 so get yourselves down to the old bar 12-2 next week to snap yours up. Those of you who have paid your deposits but not paid in full get your money in soon, or you might find a Rocksoc sponsored sports ball meathead enforcer at your door, and no one wants that.
Our beloved Wendy...-20th March
On this evening Wendy House will be running its annual and much beloved Cross-dress off competition, one of which the RockSoc has diligently taken part in over the years. To celebrate this occasion (and the holidays!) we’ll be heading over there all together to drink and make merry before the crunch of deadlines and essays descend upon us...simply mark this date in your diaries and we’ll provide more details at a later date.
