~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Melt at Rios is a new night. On Thursday the 20th (that's next week) they're doing a special societies night where everyone gets half price entry. However. Rock Soc gets that anyway (yes! with your Rock Soc card you will get half price entry to Melt every week from now on!), so don't tell the other societies, but we're getting in for £1! ...We're also pretty much dictating the music they'll be playing in the Rock room so pop on the forum if you have any suggestions before then and we'll send in our order.
What we're going to do is meet up in the Old Bar at 7pm on Thursday and get a few drinks in, then maybe Fab for free shots as well! After that we'll all be heading off to Melt for an evening of Rock-Related Goodness.
Remember to bring your Rock Soc card, we'll send out a reminder later in the week too, and come along to Old Bar then for a much needed night out with us, your favourite people.
- Firstly, Nottingham was brilliantly brilliant and anyone who didn't come lost out seriously. I want to go back. I want to move to Nottingham. Nottingham Rock Soc were a lovely bunch of people and if they ever come to Leeds we're going to keep them here and never let them leave. We'll be doing another trip next semester though, so don't rend your very flesh with despair if you did miss out. Or do, just come along next time all scarred up and emo lookin'.
- As above with Metal Kettle. Except we're not going to trap the Metal Kettle DJs, and the next one's not a term away (it's one month away on the 10th and will be special. Very special. See below.)
- The Next Rock Soc and Two Smoking Barrels is on November 26th. Expect every shade of rock, get on the forum to request before hand, and bring your own cds if you want obscure Swedish Dance Metal because we may not have a broad range of that particular genre.
- The next Metal Kettle is on December 10th. But as it's the last clubnight of the term, we're making it an extra special Christmassy Two Smoking Barrels/Metal Kettle mashup.... AND WE'LL HAVE ROCK OF AGES THERE!
Yes!
Well no. Not the club itself, but Adam who djs AT Rock of Ages will be coming along for an extra special extended guest slot. This is a man who knows his rock and his metal. How excited are we? We are very excited!
Entrance will be as normal £3 or £2 for members as well, and as it'll be Christmas there may just be some extra treats around. Stay tuned for more news on all this later in the month though.
-Also stay tuned for news on our Christmas party! Friday the 12th, the last day of term, we'll be in the Packhorse at our normal time, only with festive tasty treats and games and party hats! It's always a good night with a few prizes to give away too.
- Even more exciting is our upcoming Ball! In case you didn't know about it, every year the Rockers, Goths, Punks, and anyone else who's a little bit Alternative and can't imagine much worse than an evening spent with the Ting Tings and fizzy wine, host our own end of year ball. This year, we'll be in the Crown Plaza hotel on March 14th, so get it in your diaries now. We'll have a drinks reception, entertainment (last year we had burlesque dancers), a three course meal with drinks included, then a bit of a boogie down with everyone moshing in ball gowns and tuxedos as standard. It's one hell of a night and we'll be selling tickets from January.
AND NOW A WORD FROM JOEL:
I've been asked by my good friend Michael Bird to plug his radio show, LSR, which is a punk show but may well interest you. It's on every Wednesday morning 11-12, so tune in if you fancy some tunes to wake you up. I mean, obviously you'll all be up at 6am sharp, but you may still be a bit bleary then...
Also, we have a winner of out Terrorizer magazine competition from freshers week. If you don't know what this was, basically, Terrorizer - an extreme metal magazine in the UK, were offering a chance to win a free subscription to anyone who signed up to their mailing list. The winner was Danny Banks. Well done to him. hope you enjoy your free reading! If anyone wants them, I have a few old issues kicking around which we were given in September. I'm not really a magazine guy, so drop me a line and they're yours for free. I think they have CD's with them too!
Monday night there is a battle of the bands in Mine in the union. This is being run by Ben Fisher, one of our members, and he would like you to go along. It's a charity event supporting the ActionAid society. The highlight I believe is a band called Japanese Fighting Fish, who are a bit like QOTSA, but heavier. A bit of folk metally type stuff...
~~~~~
That's all from us for now, we'll send out more news on stuff happening later, later. Whether you like it or not. THERE IS NO ESCAPE (Nah, we know you love it).
See you at t'pub darlings
Kat and Joel (the other other white meats)
