Greetings rock children! Welcome to one of the last few newsletters you shall receive from this particular committee! I say last few, no doubt we’ll badger you with some other stuff before we disappear, I’m just feeling sentimental. Here’s what we’ve got going on. Or even gwaning, as the more ghetto fabulous members of my old school used to say:
• Corrosion - This Wednesday 11th - 9pm, The Subculture
• The Ball – Saturday 14th – 7pm, Crowne Plaza Hotel
• AGM – Wednesday 18th – 7pm, Meeting Room 3 in the Arc
• The Rileys – Big us up with the union by April 6th!
• Poster Appeal – Anyone artistic want to help us out for April 22nd Two Smoking Barrels?
- It’s time for the second ever Corrosion! Awkward time of year I know, but let’s be honest, you weren’t going to be doing that essay at that time of night anyway. Come down to The Subculture for 9pm and get down and dirty with all the best METAL and also ROCK tunes. Or stay clean if you must, you just won’t enjoy things on quite as many levels as some of us.
It’s £3 or £2 for members as per usual, with the even more usual cheap Subculture prices, and you may expect the likes of Guns N Roses, Buckcherry, Skid Row, Manowar, Shinedown, Skindred, Iced Earth, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Slipknot, Korn, Kittie, Iron Maiden, Pantera, American Headcharge… Y’know.
- It’s also time for the Ball! For those of you who got your tickets that is, sorry to those that didn’t but we’re all full now. You COULD try sneaking in at some point but if you get broken by security in the Crowne Plaza then it’s nowt to do with us. It will in any case, be an awesome night, so you lose for not being there (nah nah nanaaa nah). We’ll be starting from 7pm with a drinks reception and entertainment followed by food and more entertainment and dancing. Oooh exciting!
- AGM! For those of you who don’t know about the AGM by now… What is wrong with you? For those that do you should be aware it is next Wednesday at 7pm in Meeting Room 3, upstairs in the Arc at the union. This is the one time of year where we all get together sober (reasonably) and have a structured meeting to decide the fate of the society for the next year. THEN we go to the pub. It’s also the time to nom nom nominate the committee for 09-10 on the forum:
http://leedsrocksoc.co.uk/forum-topic/committee-nominations
And have a look at the constitution if you are so inclined:
http://leedsrocksoc.co.uk/forum-topic/new-constitution
Jokes aside this stuff is important and it’s how we keep running as a society, come along and if you want to get involved, mention that fact, see if someone will nominate you for a committee position. You could be the next me or Joel! Imagine THAT! *cackle*
- On a brief note, The Rileys are also happening soon. It’s a bit like the Union ‘Oscars’ for societies, if you think we’ve done a good job this year, we can get our name on a plaque. We got nominated last year for Nicest Committee I think, which was cool, but then we lost out to some other lot who were apparently that little bit nicer. But we’ll show ‘em yet…
Anyway if you think we’ve done well you can say so here:

- The last thing is a bit of an appeal. As most of us here are overworked, overstretched third years, we want to make sure we do right by you lot. The next Two Smoking Barrels is April 22nd. Our Lovely Publicity Officer Ame (she of blonde hair and purple inclinations) is doing her dissertation right now, so if anyone who leans in the artistic way towards poster design wishes to help us out, we basically need someone to come up with an AWESOME DESIGN for what promises to be an AWESOME NIGHT. We’ve got two VERY special bands coming down (I’ve got them on my ipod and everyfing!), and it will be the last one this committee has a hand in. Also…PIRATES. If you think you can help us (and maybe want to consider the post of Publicity Officer while you’re at it) drop us a line. There’ll be something nice in it for you, and it’ll look good on a cv:

That’s a lot of information, but I think that’s all for the moment. Don’t forget to join the Facebook group, the Last.fm group, the forum, the myspace which I think still lurks somewhere, turn up to The Packhorse every Friday, come hang out with us in The Old Bar many days a week, come over to our houses, rifle through our things, you can take cds if you like, stay with us! Staaaay!
Ahem.
See you all around!
Loves and Kisses,
Kat and Joel and the mewling cries for help that come from the rest of the committee beneath their floorboards.
