Rhiannon and I saw it at half 4 yesterday (James, work out if that's before you or not!)

I was very impressed indeed, although I wasn't expecting that much violence (no I haven't read the book)

Yeah that was before me, the film is a pretty close representation of the book apart from the removal of the giant alien squid at the end, which i agree with will i kinda miss.

I was quite surprised just how graphic they managed to make it for whats essentially a 15 film (i don't know the UK rating). Although the book itself is even more gruesome at times, the bit where Rorshach as a kid fights the two kids teasing him in the book has him stub a cigarette out on one of the kids eyeballs.

All in all though the film is good but doesn't actually have any advantage over reading the graphic novel, which gives way more depth to the whole story line and shows the characters in a bit more of a rounded way. I was a little dissapointed with Nite Owl as in the film he comes across as being a bit soft whereas in the novel he's the voice of reason, he still has some points where he loses control.

All in all if you liked the film you should definately read the Graphic Novel.

Nearly finished the novel, I'm really looking forward to the movie if the book's anything to go by!

That's why Alan Moore's being a crybaby and refusing to have anything to do with it Puzzled

And it's an 18 here.

Well it's more to do with the fact that he hates the V For Vendetta film so refuses to have anything to do with any adaptation of his work.

I think after The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was all he needed to see to be honest, also, he's totallty nuts....there's a 4+hour extended version coming out on blu-ray/dvd when its released and theres a animated short of the comic within the comic coming out :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Watchmen-Tales-Black-Freighter-DVD/dp/B001S3GDPE...

I loved the film, altho the ending dissapointed me, especially the platoon style NOOOOOOOOOO (i'll say no more to give anything away) It didn't however seem nearly 3 hours long and i'm off to see it again as I spent the whole film looking at every detail (totally geeky)

Generally speaking, he doesn't like the idea of comics being adapted into other media as it "ruins" it.

I was kinda dissapointed with the portrayal of Nite Owl, he came across as too much of a pussy. Yeah he's supposed to be in the intelligent, moral voice of reason but in the book there's a couple of times when he simply loses it and Rorshach (of all people) has to stop him from nearly killing someone.

And the ending was ok, it was true to the spirit of the ending even if it wasn't true to the letter, but i still don't see the point in changing it, the ending from the book would have worked just as well.

..but that's what the story is all about! Cut the squid?!

Hmph. I'll have to see this film before I say anything else about it.

...but no squid...

...pfah...
