I'm just gonna do a brief review of all the bands I saw whilst at Wacken...

Thursday

Sodom - Did a great set with past members of the band

Saxon - great show, and even Tobi Sammet came on to sing Strangers in the Night with Biff (Tobi was there to do a signing session for some reason)

Friday

Napalm Death - missed over half their set due to a fire starting beside the True Metal Stage and secuirity wouldn't let any more people until until the problem was sorted, managed to catch the last bit, awesome live band, and even played You Suffer, haha!

Amorphis - The new singer's pretty good with the old material, especially with the death grunts

Therion - Impressive live band, although got a bit boring. Shame they no longer play any death metal material

Chthonic - Was hoping to see Black Majesty, but ended up missing them after a slot swap with Taiwan's Chthonic. Very good black metal band, considering there's barely a metal scene there

Blind Guardian - Awesome band, much better than I was expecting]

Dimmu Borgir - Couldn't see much, as I was sat in front of the True Metal Stage wiaiting for Iced Earth, but they sounded pretty bad

Iced Earth - Spectacular performance from Tim Owens, although the choice of setlist was rather poor, no Dark Saga, Question of Heaven, Travel In Stygian, Pure Evil, Watching Over Me, I could go on. They only had 1 hour and 15 minutes, they really should have got a longer slot. Also no fucking Demons & Wizards! >Sad

Saturday

Stratovarius - Good choice of songs, but the sound was pretty bad

Swallow The Sun - They only got a half an hour slot, but chose some decent songs to fill it with, good performance as well, although the fact it was hot and sunny kinda killed the atmosphere

Norther - One of my highlights of the festival, playing all of the best tracks. Not sure about using Tatu's Not Gonna Get Us as an intro though :0

Moonsorrow - Another cool band, the crowd loved them

Surely you were able to see more than 13 bands in 3 days? I saw about 30 at Download. :0

No Demons and Wizards at a festival with both BG and IE? Now that won't do at all! >:[

There weren't that many bands that took my fancy. I would have seen Cannibal Corpse if I knew the ban on the first three albums was lifted, fuck! Anyway I spent a lot of time with some friends, so it was all good

Possessed were one of the very first death metal bands, in the early 80s. They only made about 2 albums before splitting up and although they never had much success, they are generally considered to be very influential; their debut album "Seven Churches" is classed as the very first death metal album. I guess they've reunited for some reason. Bizarrely, their guitarist Larry LeLonde changed musical paths somewhat and co-founded Primus! :0

Just looked on wikipedia, and I think I have an idea as to why they sucked at Wacken. The band hasn't really reunited; the singer just recruited some new people. That's cheating! >:[

Oh, and there is/was actually another band called Possessed. They were a UK hard rock band in the early 70s who split up after 1 album as 3 of the members died in a car crash. They were tipped for great things too, so it's a shame. Although, their one album has recently been reissued; I think I saw it in HMV the other day.

Do I know too much!? Laughing out loud

Norther used that TaTu track as an intro tape at Master of Rock too. I think they always use it.
