Too many people have been far too accommodating of reductio ad hitlerium. If your argument uses any of the following words you are wrong, your point is invalid: Nazi, BNP, Hitler, any other dictator, gas chamber, holocaust and other words associated with such concepts. The reason your argument is not worth reading is that you are implying that by disagreeing with your argument that the person disagreeing with you supports the mass extermination of 6 million people. This is an absurd position for anybody to take but is still increasing popularity. To combat this I shall be implementing the following policy with immediate effect in a hope that people stopping use here will cause some effect in the wider world and I will end up reading fewer flawed and banal arguments.

From now on ANY post resorting to reductio ad hitlerium in any form will be emptied and replaced with the following message:

Quote:
This post was deleted because the user is an idiot and cannot form an argument without resorting to invoking Godwin's law (reductio ad hitlerium) which is banned on this website.

Any usage I fail to spot please report via pm.
Moderators, admins: please follow this policy with immediate effect. Do not worry about retroactive enforcement unless you have time on your hands.

Obviously note the exception that using the words themselves is not banned as discussion of history is not banned.

Do you intend to include the word fascist, as this term means something totally different to nazi? For example:

Nazi definition (Dictionary.com)

1.a member of the National Socialist German Workers' party of Germany, which in 1933, under Adolf Hitler, seized political control of the country, suppressing all opposition and establishing a dictatorship over all cultural, economic, and political activities of the people, and promulgated belief in the supremacy of Hitler as Führer, aggressive anti-Semitism, the natural supremacy of the German people, and the establishment of Germany by superior force as a dominant world power. The party was officially abolished in 1945 at the conclusion of World War II. 2.(often lowercase) a person elsewhere who holds similar views.

Fascist definition (Dictionary.com)

–noun

1.a person who believes in or sympathizes with fascism.

2.(often initial capital letter) a member of a fascist movement or party.

3.a person who is dictatorial or has extreme right-wing views.

As this is not specifically referring to the Holocaust or Nazi persecutions generally (and has entered the English language largely as a non-political term to denote someone who believes in restriction of free speech, rather than a believer in the doctrines of Mussolini's Italian fascist party, fascism and nazism being quite different) would this be allowed? I am merely curious.

/me decides to bait tim:
{joke}So what you're saying is we're now subject to some kind of nazi censorship?{joke}

Does the following come under the site's definition of godwin's law:

Quote:
There are warnings in history about not speaking out when something's beginning to go horribly wrong

Or similar arguments in favour of voicing concerns sooner rather than later?

I'd like to point out as a historian that the estimated total number of those killed by the Nazi extermination programme was probably closer to 10 million.

What was it Stalin said: "The death of one is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic"?

Possibly. It's true that we can't fully grasp death on a large scale and can easily be nonchalante, but the death of one person or a few we can cope with.
