This is disappointing.

Of course, by "disappointing", I don't mean "shit"; Opeth are the sort of band that are physically incapable of being such a thing. What I mean is that this album is merely "very good" rather than the usual "mindblowingly, orgasmically fantastic" that I've come to expect from a band of this calibre. By all means buy this album, just don't expect it to be a work of genius. That's what it should be, but unfortunately it isn't.

The bonus DVD footage is quite enlightening though.

For once tom, i strongly, REALLY strongly, DISAGREE with you....

sorry, but this album is just.... incredible...

Perhaps opeth's best album yet I think....

and I'm not a huge opeth fan Eye-wink

It has just the right balance of clean a la damnation, contrasting with the brutal side a la deliverance, so a more clean version of ghost reveries.

The contrasting moods, and how Akerfeldt plays around with the 'riffs' (if they could even be called that here) is mezmerizing.

As soon as you here the acoustic intro to this album, you'll be hooked, say I.

I've listened to it another 3 or 4 times and my opinion of it has improved somewhat.

My only criticism is that I think a couple of the songs, such as Hessian Peel, are a bit too loosely structured, and this is probably why it took me quite a few listens to properly appreciate the album.

It's awesome and a definate improvement from Ghost Reveries in my opinion, I don't think there'll ever be such a thing as a bad Opeth album.
