For those of you who have been here before, you may have noticed that the website looks a bit, different. Do not fear this. it is for your own good. Note that there will be a good few tweaks in the coming days and weeks.

There will also be inevitable errors, things that I have forgotten to do, things that I didn't notice needed doing, things that I cannot do (such as view the site on any of the products that come out of that sewage factory known as Apple). For those cases where there is a problem, I direct you to the Site features and issues forum where you are free to point out my the shortcomings of my creation in as much detail as you can possibly give. 1 Thread per issue please.

Also I will make it clear now, Internet Explorer 6 is NOT SUPPORTED and will not recieve a single modicium of my attention. If Google can say they are no longer supporting that archaic relic from our childhood, then this site can be quite sure of being in a better position to also say the same thing.

I am aware that Internet Explorer 7 has some isssues with the current design but on the whole is usable, these issues may recieve a fix in time, but it is not a priority for me. If I am made aware of any issues that make it unusable, then I will increase its priority.

I hope you like the new site!

I think it's really nice Tim, really well done ^_^

My only quibble is I got confused as to what the 'submit' button for posts is. Save is a bit.... odd. But maybe that's just me.

I'd rather have my words of condescension saved than roll over in submission and hope the intended action happens...

I suppose it is a little odd if you are not used to it, but I think it is something that still makes reasonable sense.

It is a good website. However, I cannot seem to find the thread that talks about whats left to be done in the leeds guide rewrite

Committee Chat > Leeds Guide Rewrite.

I am updating the long first post of that thread to mark what has been done.

There doesn't seem to be a checkbox to 'keep me logged in' under the logging in box.

That is deliberate. The persistent login is now the default behaviour (with a 2 week time out). If you wish to log out at the end of a browser session then there is a big button on the web page letting you do so.

This was decided to be the default behaviour to be in line with what is expected by current web-users*. There has been a trend to have persistence as the default mode as of late, so it is better usability** to be in line with expectations.

* blame Facebook.

** admittedly there can be argued a drop in security by this change, however as the vast majority of web users (especially for a site such as this) will be running a multi-user OS*** with personal accounts I don't think there will be massive problems.

*** Win 2k and Win XP are multi-user enough for what is being discussed. If this footnote makes sense to you and would have moaned had it not been here: Stop being pedantic.

Actually, I lose my 'log-in' when I close my browser and have to re log-in when I revisit the page. I've checked that Firefox is accepting cookies and keeping until 'they expire'. I'll just grab my software versions for you:

*****Software Versions*****
Ubuntu 9.10 - Karmic Koala;
Firefox 3.6.9;

yes. good spotting. there was a server setting that had been changed from its default years ago and had not been put back to default in all that time. I changed it so that the time-out is now exactly 2 weeks.

Yay, and I can finally read it! (I couldn't read the previous white writing on dark blue background!)
