Stupid title aside, this film is entertaining enough, and doesn't go on for too long like the last one, but suffers from a paper-thin attempt at plotting (even by Bond standards). Imagine Licence to Kill stripped down, and you've a good idea of what the film is like. I'm still not 100% sure if I like Daniel Craig's Bond yet, but that's just down to his take on the role, not his acting.

Indeed.   An entertaining enough start and a rip-snorting finale  doesn't make for a good film when the hour in the middle is so turgid.

A deep disappointment...but then what do I know?  I only like three bond movies and wouldn't consider myself a fan.  I was expecting more being as 'one of the three'* was Casino Royale.....and the knowing nod to Goldfinger wasn't even vaguely amusing, ironic, post-modern, whatever....just lazy.

ANd Craig is probably the best Bond, IMHO.

*The other two are On Her Majesty's Secret Service  and The Living Daylights if anyone's interested

The Goldfinger thing annoyed me, because I immediately thought "oh, they ripped that off Goldfinger", which meant the impact of the scene was completely lost.

I like Living Daylights too, but I don't think On Her Majesty's Secret Service is as good as the book.

the whole thing was turgid

and i like bond movies

they got rid of all the gadgets, its like a bourne movie. Its edited so you feel like your having a seizure, just watch the opening chase scene again. Someone liked scissors in the cutting room. The fights were implausible or stupid and usually both. Daniel craig cant act. he grunts, and has this shit eating grin where women are concerned. MI5 send him a prostitute to bag in a lazy attempt to give him a love interest which leads nowhere. As the son of a fireman. the idiocy of the finale was not lost on me, or anyone above three years old.

All in all, it was better than mutant chronicals, and for that, i am thankful

See for me, it was the inclusion of all the ridiculous gadgetry that made Bond so annoying. I *hated* that about Bond.  The fact that Bond is now living of his wits and his psychopathic tendencies is MUCH more in line with the books.  That said, I still didn't enjoy QoS.   Casino Royale was, for me, the perfect Bond movie.

End was completely overblown and kind of spoiled what i thought was otherwise a good film. I like the hour or so in the middle that everyone else seems to complain about. However i did have the good sesne to go pee when they were in the cave and the explanation of why she wants revenge which is glaringly obvious anyway is explained.

I did find it funny when the Canadian woman at the end said "Thankyou". Everyone started laughing and one guy just says "Jesus Canadians are way too polite".

Also it has a crap theme song. You Know My Name was one of the best themes ever and the title sequence matched well with it, and to the films as a whole. This one seemed to be a lackustre song and although the sand dunes thing was fairly relevant to the film it was just boring and uninspiring.

I think the main reason that this bond film seems a bit awkward is because it's not a standalone film. They're obviously trying to make these new bonds into one continual story arc. This film is a continuation of Casino Royale and a bridge into the next film, whatever that may be.I think because of that it's hard to compare it to other bond films which have a definitive end.

True but a 'middle act' movie can still work as a stand alone movie.  THere wasn't enough in this movie to make it engaging.

I'm trying hard not to invoke the spectre of 'The Empire Strikes Back', but it's bloody difficult :-D
