Right.

I'm in need of a new band.

I have a particular way of listening to music, which usually involves finding out one artist/band and sticking with them until I have all or most of their discography.

Up to now, I'm into Kamelot, Serenity, Blind Guardian, Epica, Elvenking, Sonata Arctica, on one side.

Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Ayreon, Cynic, Dream Theater, Nevermore, on the other.

(As an aside, Genesis, Gabriel, Sting, Tori Amos, CapaRezza, Modena City Ramblers, Clapton, Giovanni Allevi, Enigma)

Suggestions?

I was considering Porcupine Tree, or Paradise Lost. Different genres, but equivalently interesting.

Comments on these two or others?

Chrome Hoof, it's all you need. Honestly though, I have lots of non-metal stuff I could recommend you if you fancy it.

Interesting way of appreciating bands.

Yeah Paradise Lost have a very diverse discography, starting off with their pioneering death/doom style, then moving onto a traditonal form of gothic metal, then a brief dabble in electro rock (which I found most enjoyable out of their career to be honest) then back into gothic metal, although still sounding very different to how they sounded at the beginning of their career. Albums I'd recommend from throughout their career are: Gothic, Host and their latest, In Requiem

Seeing as you're into Kamelot, Sonata and Serenity, I recommend Vanishing Point from Australia. They're my all time favourite band as a few folk here know. They're barely known in the UK, but seem to be making a name for themselves on mainland Europe after touring with Sonata very recently. They have four albums out, I recommend starting with their two latest: The Fourth Season and Embrace The Silence. Their other two albums: Tangled In Dreams and In Thought are not as brilliant, but still worth checking out.

Also are you familar with Masterplan at all?
