That's a heck of a lot of smileys right there. Never fear, not all of us are prone to 'lollage'. Unless you're really in to that sort of thing.

Either way, welcome to the Rock Soc. We are awesome, so now by association so are you.

its even more interesting that there seems to be a regular trip down to Nottingham, you should really try rock soc pub crawl they do before going clubbing. start in The Speakeasy (their meeting place) then to The Langtry (very good real ale) then to The Bell (also has good beer!) then The Salutation (try the black pearl if its on) then to The Trip to Jerusalem (oldest pub in country built in the caves under the castle!) from there to The Pit and Pendulum (Goth theme pub) drinks are bloody expensive but has a cool vibe darkly lit with gargoyles, iron maidens, maniacal and other weird stuff. oh and tell NTU rock soc before you go down next. the old farts who are still there from when i was there are a good laugh. lol

Very little at the moment, cos I've broken my hand :-/  But when I've got use of my hand, mostly conceptual/installation/sculpture and photographic collage.

Hello Smiling I have just finished my post grad course, although the opposite to you, I started in Leeds and then went elsewhere. I also do what is possibly the most opposite to your course (astrophysics).

I'll be back in Leeds soon. I will. I have to!

My partner is a physicist...although he designs and builds lasers for a living at Southampton Uni.  Despite being an artist, I did both quantum physics and astronomy ad planetary science modules with the Open University.  I take most of my art inspiration from science these days...my current fascination is medicine and discarded sciences....

Yeah, I know Lymington...I was in Soton for 9 years until I moved back to Gods Own North Laughing out loud And to be honest, Southampton was in desperate need of a revamp. It was a bit run down.  I'm just annoyed they got an Apple Shop in West Quay mere weeks after I left!

Oh you're one of those are you? Sticking out tongue

Sorry, I'm doing an aesthetics module at the moment (I study Philosophy) and am trying to grasp exactly what makes the "works" of Marcel Duchamp, Damien Hirst, etc "art". Apparently, the context has something to do with it Puzzled

***Yes as it happens ...hehehe

Sorry, I'm doing an aesthetics module at the moment (I study Philosophy)

***you have my sympathies....for the aesthetics...and maybe the philosophy :-D

and am trying to grasp exactly what makes the "works" of Marcel Duchamp, Damien Hirst, etc "art". Apparently, the context has something to do with it Puzzled

Duchamp never claimed to be an artist.  He preferred 'technician'.  His fantastic contribution to the art world was to trick the audience into beleiving they were seeing art.  In a fantastic sleight of hand, he turned the audience into the artist.  There's an essay you'll probably have to read called something like 'the strange case of R.Mutt' which is rather wonderful.  it sort of expains everything Smiling

Hirst on the other hand is a charlatan.  The titles of his pieces are far more revealing than the pieces themselves.  In that respect, the physical presence of is art is an abject failure.

So there. ;-)

Well done very well put. Just don’t get started on Michael Craig-Martins "An Oak Tree" because we could be here a while discussing semiotics.....

Haha!   I'm not going near that with a ten-foot pole, lest my brain explodes from a fevre derived from apoplexy!  :-D

And why the cod mediaevalisms, I wonder?
