Quite simply though
This is the first cast iron album of 2009
Its what master of Puppets was to metallica
Reign in blood was to slayer
Number of the beast was to maiden
Vulgar display of power was to pantera
Its the sound of a band doing what everyone knew they could do
But cranking it up in terms of technical ability
songwriting craftmanship
and balls to the wall catchiness
It is the heaviest slab of heavy metal you will probably ever hear that does not dip into subgenres
Its cross genre its sludgy without losing pace, heavy without losing its listenable qualities, catchy yet not repetitive
Its also much less commercial that Sacrament
Think As the Palaces Burns ferocity combined with Ashes of the wakes songwriting finess
Smothered in 'cool'
Also as an aside
I saw them last night in Manchester at Defenders of the Faith tour
All songs from the new album showcased sat well with their older stuff, and yes, some even stole the show
Buy it-no excuses
see them live in the nest 3 weeks and you can buy it for 6 pound as they have a promotion on
so even less excuses
