At the moment any e-mail the site send out that doesn't reach its destination is returned to me. This is a pain in the ass for everyone involved, as I get a lot of extra e-mail, and rocksoc doesn't know who isn't getting the newsletter, or who is having signup issues. I would like to pass this burden on to someone who might actually be in a position to sort it all out.

I can send bounces from the rocksoc host to either a named e-mail account (this will likely need changing with handovers, to bounces [at] leedsrocksoc [dot] co [dot] uk which puts the issue in the hands of Tim, or I can create an account specifically for this which allows the accout to be passed round, or me to re-assign it if needed.

Whoever they go to should be prepared to spend a little time fixing typos in the mailing list, and contacting site members by an alternate channel to ask them to update/confirm their details.

Could you forward the bounces@ address to leedsrocksoc [at] andrewandhoward [dot] co [dot] uk

That way they go to my secretary account, same as info@ and I can do my best to resolve them or just remove them...

Cheers,

Joel

Done.

The last bulk mail fed me about 200 bounces so be prepared for the next mail you send out to keep you busy.

It's not that bad a bounce rate given there's 1068 on the list as I post this. I don't know how many are silently dropped by the recipient though. It looks like M$/hotmail is back to failing noisily rather than silently which is at least a step in the right direction.
