Seeing as the first 9 bands have been announced, I figured it'd be wise to set up a thread for it.

I haven't been since 2007 because, for one reason or another, I haven't been able to even though the lineups have been awesome. Well, if these bands are anything to go by, that's not happening again this time: -

AC/DC
Deftones
Stone Temple Pilots
Them Crooked Vultures
Wolfmother
Megadeth
Motorhead
Volbeat
Bullet For My Valentine

Okay, we can just ignore the last one but I think the rest is enough to make me want to go already.

So who else is interested? Rocksoc did an official Download trip in 2006: have we done one the last coupla years?

Tickets go on sale Friday 9am (I don't want to miss out on seeing AC/DC AGAIN, so I'll probably get in there early)

I will allow the self-titled EP to stand as an alright metalcore disc, but everything else is pure donkey balls

The lineup does ;look good, however lack of money and memories of previous Downloads will probably prevent me from attending!

So far its not looking £180 worthy yet.

Being within 400 yards of Motorhead will seriously damage your ability to hear anything else for the rest of the weekend, or at least that's what I seem to remember from the last time I saw them at download.

I've either seen the bands on the line-up so far many times, or just can't be arsed with them, with the only exception being AC/DC which I'm not sure I want to fork out £180 for. It's a wishy-washy line-up thus far, with AC/DC being a vain attempt to attract the crowds, methinks.

I'm opting for Sonisphere this year folks..

So far Megadeath are the only band on there that are on my list of bands that I need to see. Looking at my schedule, I don't think I'm suppressing secessionists or doing anything else that might require a commitment that weekend, but I just don't think I care that much about Megadeath.

Fuck I sound old.

Megadeth are a must-see if you're into them and haven't seen them already but to be honest Charles, wait for another tour and pay a little less brass! they'll be doing the circuit in the UK again soon I'm sure

seen Megadeth 3 times, they never disappoint. And new guitarist Chris Broderick is INSANELY good Smiling

I've never seen Motorhead and Lemmy's not getting any younger: should probably catch him now while I can!

I thought Motorhead were a bit disappointing at the last download I saw them at (the year eludes me), they were on the second stage and had chosen their legendary loudness over the accoustic limits of the equipment, venue and audience. This is expected of bands playing with excitable drummers in small venues, but is pretty much inexcusable anywhere the venue is big enough to require the drums be miced up. Maybe it was mixed to sound right it the already deaf and those wearing ear defenders.

After talking to Tim on Wednesday, it seems I have seen Megadeath. It was the Friday of the download where I took 60 cans of beer with me... Of that day I remember Fozzy, Apocalyptica, the first few minutes of Dinosaur Jr who were on after Megadeth because I insisted, and then running for Paradise Lost who were quite possible the best act of the day if not the festival. I don't know what we did after that but we returned to that stage for Napalm Death... If anyone can fill in the rest of my day that year I'd be grateful.

I think perhaps Megadeath might not have been that memorable, but I don't think I enjoy the big stage that much.

Aerosmith and RATM are the other 2 headliners: not a MASSIVE fan of either band, but they both have several songs that I've always wanted to hear in a live setting.

Maybe once a few more bands are announced, the line up will be more tempting? I'm not overwhelmed with the line up so far, but dang I want to go to a festival this year!

I am really hoping Billy Idol is not headlining or co-headlining the second stage.

He headlined second stage when he played in 2005: either be the same again, or he'll be about 4th or 5th down on the main stage I reckon

Are we organising any kind of official event for this, like we've done in previous years? I of course won't be travelling with anyone here (I'll be getting to Donington from the opposite end of the country!) but it'd be nice if I had people to camp with Smiling
