Yes

ten out of ten to the people at Oxfam near corn exchange for displaying what can only be described as clothing sesame street threw up on. No buying was not an option. They run small and i like my bits to breathe but sweet holy pop idol judges. They were the least sexy undergarments for any gender ever.

Maybe time will tell

Maybe one day we will appreciate them in all their badly designed unevenly stitched frilly glory. Though this is probably in some trendy kids chest of drawers. Waiting to be shown off to the world the second his jeans slip over his ass and hang perilously close to falling off at vertical limit. Gladly presented in bright eager colours.

Ten out of ten for effort

What's the betting that Joel or Alex is now going to rush out and buy them?

That's nothing, though; has anyone seen the dresses they sell at Oxfam now? I remember when all of the clothes at Oxfam were donated from the public and dirt cheap, but the price was still enough for a man in Africa to grow his own rice and thus support his family for the rest of their lives. Now they make their own "Oxfam range", which is just as expensive as regular shop clothes (and thus defies the whole purpose of a charity shop, if you ask me). It's obvious that with this new range they are still trying to perpetuate the idea of the second-hand clothes, as they are all designed to look a bit retro, the only problem being that they focus on everything that was wrong with retro, ie the worst clothes of the era they are trying to imitate (usually 50s or 80s well, you can imagine!)

Maybe I'm evil for saying this, but I really think that Oxfam have become just a tad pretentious these days. I used to love going in there when it was actually a regular charity shop, and not just a boutique for horrifyingly awful clothes that nobody would wear. I mean seriously, you would have to be on the world's biggest guilt trip for the plight of the third world to be convinced to buy most of the stuff they sell there these days (if my last visit is anything to go by, at least). Personally I'll stick to fairtrade cookies as my way of supporting the third world, rather than wear a luminous snot-green satin dress with shoulder pads bigger than my entire body!

I personally prefer going to charity shops other than Oxfam. I agree that the idea that making your own products defies the purpose, because that means it's not completely "charitable" as some of the money is used on themselves.
