My number one is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - "Dig Lazarus Dig!"
I can't compile a list as long as yours, Tom, as I prefer to physically purchase albums and didn't even buy 10 new albums. For what it's worth:
This list is based on personal enjoyment, as I don't consider myself qualified to judge them by the musical ability and songwriting on display (hey, I'm a drummer Sticking out tongue)

1. Dig Lazarus Dig - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
2. Tinnitus Sanctus - Edguy
3. The Scarecrow - Avantasia
4. Parasite of Society - Headhunter
5. Master of Illusion - Power Quest
6. Death Magnetic - Metallica
7. Blooddrunk - Children of Bodom
8. Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - Licht
9. Prevail - Kataklysm

Too many to list, but my faves from 2008 have to be Serenity's Fallen Sanctuary and Iced Earth's Crucible of Man

So do I; there's only about 4 or 5 there that I didn't buy.

I think I said before somewhere that I've only bought two albums from 2008 this year, so my list is

1. Flogging Molly - Float
2. Less Than Jake - GNV FLA

Not quite as interesting, and a little different to the lists above Sticking out tongue

I only bought two new albums out this year, so:

1. Frost - Experiments in Mass Appeal
2. Death Magnetic - Metallica

Rather distressing, but personally, I think it's been a pretty poor year for rock....my albums of the year have all be non-rock this year. Well... not 'RAAAAAAAAAAWK!' but some rock and a lot of non-rock.

I'm getting old.
