"Woe to you oh earth and sea, for the devil sends the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number. Its number is six hundred and sixty six..." - Iron Maiden, The Number Of The Beast.
Welcome to the world of rock music, with its many incarnations, from the thunderous assaults of metal to the happy-go-lucky melodies of punk and ska... oh, if you were looking for the geology society, by now you probably have figured you are in the wrong place... try here instead. If not, read on...
We all hope that your exams either went well or are blissfully over, setting you free for a summer of (responsible) debauchery, drinking and partying. But before you disappear off into the ether of the glorious British summertime (we know it won’t last) we have one more treat in store for you!
Aloha hard rocking amigos of Leeds Rock Society!
Please ignore our previous message, we had a little accident with technology, don't worry, it's all sorted now.
We're going to Hull this semester for a night out in Spiders nightclub. Spiders is a nightclub catering to the Rock and Metal community on an industrial estate!
Word on the street is that it's well worth a visit. Photos of Kenny from the trip three years ago say so too! He was asleep in the aisle of the coach, trashed!
Spiders is across 3 floors.
Bottom floor - Ska, Punk, Indie.
Middle Floor - Metal.
Top floor - 60's, 70's, 80's & some 90's Rock!
Playing all shades of rock, from AC/DC to Ash, Slipknot, Slayer, System, Korn, Coheed and Cambria, Prodigy, Pendulum, Papa Roach, Metallica, MSI, Kittie Iron Maiden, Pantera, Blood Hound Gang, Greenday, Blink 182, Rob Zombie, Robbie Williams... no wait.
Well everyone, that's it from us, you The People (who came last night) have spoken, and we have our new committee for 2009 - 2010. Many congratulations to:
Jo Bedingfield - President Alex Booth - Secretary Chris Terry - Treasurer Sarah Yaccabe - Publicity Gordon Nicol - Social Sec James Bashforth - Gig Sec Rhiannon Lamb, Ben Tickle, Laura Jones - General Committee Alex Valente - Webmaster
May their reigns be of effective and accetable levels of terror.
Alas! Alack! ‘Ello! This shall be the last newsletter you shall officially receive from this present committee! As of tomorrow, 7pm in Meeting Room 3 in the Arc, you the people shall vote in your new leaders, and we who have worked so hard for you all this past year shall be cast aside into the metaphorical scrap heap of graduate ex-members. Not that we’re bitter or anything.
There’s a couple of bits to mention before then though, so here it is:
• Thanks for the Ball
• AGM – Tomorrow Wednesday March 18th – The Arc, Meeting Room 3 – 7pm
Greetings rock children! Welcome to one of the last few newsletters you shall receive from this particular committee! I say last few, no doubt we’ll badger you with some other stuff before we disappear, I’m just feeling sentimental. Here’s what we’ve got going on. Or even gwaning, as the more ghetto fabulous members of my old school used to say:
• Corrosion - This Wednesday 11th - 9pm, The Subculture
• The Ball – Saturday 14th – 7pm, Crowne Plaza Hotel
• AGM – Wednesday 18th – 7pm, Meeting Room 3 in the Arc
Firstly, thanks to everyone who's already paid their money for the ball. You lot are ace you are.
For the rest of you, we know there have been several people who have said they'd struggle to pay for it all at once, this is quite understandable, we're students, £32 is practically millions. Worry not though! We may have an answer!
If you'd struggle to part with £32 in one go, come talk to us in Old Bar (12-2 by the pizza place) this week. Pay us £10 by way of a deposit, and stick around for a chat, we'll sort out a time or arrangement for you to pay the rest in a way you can afford.
Its that time of the year again, out with the old committee and in with the new. This is your chance to choose who you want to represent and run your society for the next year.
The committee positions are:
President - The boss, presides over the smooth running of the society.
Secretary - This person takes notes at all the meetings and helps the president.
Treasurer - This person handles the money in the society.
The top 3 positions (president, Secretary and Treasurer) are expected to attend as many rocksoc functions as is physically possible and are seen as officers to the union.
This is just a quick reminder that our joint charity event with Action Aid is THIS SUNDAY in Mine in LUU.
Doors are at 5pm, and entry is £3 for RockSoc Members. Remember, all the proceeds go to supporting Soft Power Education, helping to educate people in Africa and help them to build a life.
